SUMMARY OF OUR DAILY ACTIVITIES
Depart Newark Airport on an overnight flight to Athens, Greece, via Zurich. Full service on board.
Upon arrival in Athens we are met by our local representative and transfer to our hotel in Athens. Balance of the day at leisure. Dinner and overnight in Athens.
This morning our sightseeing will include visits of the Acropolis with its famous Parthenon and the Erectheum. Our tour will continue with an orientation tour of the city of Athens, pass by the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Parliament House, Presidential Palace and Temple of Olympian Zeus. In the afternoon we visit the Athens’ Archaeological Museum. Overnight in Athens.
After breakfast we depart Athens, cross the Corinth Canal and proceed to Mycenae. Here we visit the Lyon’s Gate and the Tomb of Agamemnon. From here we continue to Epidaurus to visit its famous Theater. Proceed to Sparti for overnight.
After breakfast we depart for Mystras, a fortified town situated on Mt. Taygetos, near ancient Sparta. It served as the capital of the Byzantine Despotate of the Morea in the 14th and 15th centuries. Continue to Olympia for overnight.
After breakfast we visit Olympia, the site of the Olympic Games in classical times, the most famous in history. We visit the Sanctuary with the Temple of Hera, Temple of Zeus, the Pelopion and the area of the Altar, where the sacrifices were made. After our visit we drive through the plains of Elias and Achaia to Itea and arrive in Delphi for overnight.
Delphi is both the Archaeological site and the modern town in Greece. Earlier myths include traditions that Pythia or the Delphic Oracle in the pre-classical Greek world served as the major site, during classical times for the worship of Apollo. We visit the Sanctuary of Apollo, the Museum with its famous bronze, “Charioteer”. We continue to Athens for overnight.
After breakfast we transfer to Piraeus to board our cruise ship, our home for the next three nights. We sail for Mykonos. Here we have time to explore the lovely harbor town. Evening sail for Kusadasi, Turkey.
This morning we arrive at the Turkish port of Kusadasi where an optional excursion to Ephesus is available. Sail for Patmos where St. John the Divine received the Revelation as found in the last Book of the New Testament. Optional excursion to the Monastery and Grotto. Evening sail for Heraklion, Crete.
This morning we arrive at Greece’s largest island, Crete. Optional excursion to Knossos and the Palace of King Minos is available. Afternoon sail for the volcano island of Santorini. Evening sail for Piraeus.
Upon arrival at the port of Piraeus we are met by our local representative and transfer to our hotel in Athens. Balance of the day at leisure to explore this beautiful city on our own. A visit of the recently opened Acropolis Museum is a must. Overnight Athens.
After breakfast transfer to the airport for our return flight to Newark via Zurich, arriving the same evening.
